On the early morning of 30 Sep
1993, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on Richter Scale rocked the
districts of Latur and Usmanabad in Maharashtra. The degree of
fury was such that dwellings in several villages of these two
districts were totally converted to debris. More than 10000
people lost their lives in Latur and Osmanabad districts. In
adjoining Karnataka, 9 people were killed and about 16,000
people injured. Number of houses destroyed in the earthquake was
about 30,000.
That was a full Moon night on
29-30 Sep 1993, which blackened the lives of more than 50000

Saraswati (President of Sarvadeshik Sabha), a team of AryaVeers
(Arya Veer Dal Sewa Samiti) was formed under the leadership of
Sh. Vinay Arya with order to initiate the rescue work
immediately.

Jay Bharat Maruti. After reaching Latur, it was found that the
members of Arya Samaj Latur have already started the rescue
work. AryaVeers also joined them accelerating the pace of
rescue. AryaVeers visited several affected areas and dug out the
dead bodies and their funeral was done according to the Vedic
Principles. Medical first aid was provided to the injured.
Critically injured were rushed to hospitals immediately.
The Operation continued for more than 1
