26 Dec 2004
It was
about 10 O'clock in the morning. The Delhi Arya Veers were
retiring of the exhaustion caused by Shobhayatra of 25 December.
In the mean time, Sh. Vijender Arya (Convenor, Sewa Samiti, Arya
Veer Dal Delhi Pradesh) gave message to senior officials that a
strong storm has hit Southern Indian Coastline. After an
emergency Meeting, a team AryaVeers (Arya Veer Dal Sewa Samiti)
was formed and sent to the affected area. News of loss of 10000
lives was on air.
On reaching
Nagapattnam, Sh. Vijender Arya clarified the actual picture. The
reports sent by him were frightening. This was a situation worse
than imagined. The tidal waves were entered upto 10 Kms deep on
the land. Several Villages wiped off with the returning water of
the ocean. Neither the dead bodies nor the alive were present
there. Even the plantation vanished. Only the silence of
Mortuary was spread everywhere.
But
ironically, the life for the people, who survived from Tsunami,
became a curse. All the water reservoirs of the affected areas
were contaminated with the salty water of ocean. Food and
Shelter were no matter, in front of the problem of Drinking
Water.
Making the
situation worst, the language problem became a big issue in
performing the rescue work. People of Southern India do not have
even a small piece of awareness about Hindi Language. But Sh.
Virender Arya managed some how.
Meanwhile
the relief material sent by Sarvadeshik Sabha started to reach
there. For proper distribution of the same, a planning was made.
The team members of Sewa Samiti made surveys several villages
and prepared a list of actual needful people on one day. On the
next day they made distribution the required material according
to the list.
250 houses
were built by Sewa Samiti in two villages namely Nagapattanam
and Vangiri, by the material provided by the Sarvadeshik Sabha
and others. The period of rescue operation stretched to 2
months.
AryaVeers
reached there at first and serviced there till last. In the
absolute opposite circumstances, AryaVeers did voluntary service
in this Operation of Arya Samaj.
AryaVeers still get frightened on rememorising the ruination
caused by the nature. More than 300000 people died in this
biggest disaster in current history. But the voluntary services
rendered by them, brings the smile of satisfaction back on their
face.
